How to read a lace size

The two numbers are inches: width across the front, then depth back from the hairline. A 13x4 lace front runs ear to ear and 4″ back, so you can part anywhere across the front. A 4x4 closure is a 4″ square at the centre, so the parting stays inside it. More lace looks more natural around the hairline, but it takes longer to put on and usually costs more.
