Wig Weight & Comfort Estimator
A long, very dense wig looks amazing in photos and can be genuinely tiring by the end of the day. Set the wig and how you'll wear it, and see how heavy and how warm it'll feel, and what makes it easier.
A 20″ wig at 180%: moderate, and cool to wear.
How much hair a wig carries grows with both density and length, so a 30″ 250% wig carries about 3.1× the hair of a 16″ 150% one. For scale, one retailer lists a 30″ wig at about 290g at 180% density and 340g at 250%; few state weights at all, and the cap and lace add a little either way.
Making it comfortable
- Glueless, with a grip band
- Combs and straps you can take off at night, and a grip band to spread the weight and protect your edges.
- Snug straps, never over-tightened
- Tightening the straps to cope with the weight pulls on your hairline. A correctly sized cap matters more with extra weight.

Glueless wigs at 20″, up to 180%
How it's estimated
More hair is heavier, and a wig carries more hair the denser and the longer it is, so the weight is compared with a 16″, 150% wig rather than given in grams, which very few listings state. Warmth rises with density and length and falls with more lace and less cap. The comfort advice is from our guides to density, high-density wigs, extra-long wigs and hot weather.
Questions people ask
How heavy is a human hair wig?
It depends on length and density. Few retailers state weights; one lists a 30 inch wig at about 290g at 180% density and 340g at 250%. A long, very dense wig can feel heavy by the end of a long day.
Why does my wig feel so heavy?
Usually high density and long length together: more hair is heavier, and the weight pulls on the cap and your hairline. A lower density, a layered cut, wearing it up sometimes and a grip band all help.
What is the coolest wig to wear in hot weather?
A shorter, lower-density, glueless wig with more lace and less cap, such as a headband wig or a lace front, over a mesh wig cap. Skip adhesive in high heat.
