Choosing a cosplay wig

Match the shape before the colour

A character is recognised by the cut first: the fringe, the parting, buns or pigtails, how far down it falls. Get that right and a shade or two off still reads as the character. The style filters sort by exactly that.

Synthetic fibre and heat

Most costume wigs are synthetic, and standard synthetic fibre melts under a straightener or curling iron. Wigs marked heat-resistant take low heat (see the heat styling guide); for the rest, reshape with steam or hot water and let them set.

Fit and comfort

Costume wigs are one size and fit most adult heads of about 21 to 23 inches, with an elastic or adjustable inner cap. Child wigs are made smaller. Measure first with our cap size finder, and see the sizing guide for what to do above or below that.

Lace front or not

A lace front gives a hairline that looks like it grows from the skin, which matters for photos and up-close cosplay. A standard cap has a visible edge, which bangs or a hat usually hide.

Questions people ask

Are cosplay wigs the same as the human hair wigs on Bulqq?

No. Cosplay and costume wigs are made from synthetic fibre for a look you wear for an event, and cost a fraction of a human hair wig. They are listed separately and never mixed into the human hair shop, the Wig Finder or the comparisons.

Can I use a straightener or curling iron on a costume wig?

Only if it is sold as heat-resistant, and then on a low setting. Standard synthetic fibre melts. To restyle one, use steam or hot water and let it set in shape.

Will a costume wig fit me?

Adult costume wigs are one size and fit most heads, with an elastic or adjustable inner cap. Child wigs are sized smaller. A wig cap underneath helps it sit flat and stay put.

How do I keep a cosplay wig looking good?

Brush it gently with a wide-tooth comb from the ends up, store it on a stand or in a hair net, and wash it rarely in cool water with a little shampoo. Let it dry on a stand, never with a hair dryer on high heat.

Who sells these wigs?

Every wig here is sold and shipped by Abracadabra NYC, a New York costume shop. You buy on their site; we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
