Wig Spec Decoder
Paste a wig's title or its spec table from any site. We'll explain every spec in plain English, flag what it doesn't tell you, and show the closest wigs we list.
What it says — this reads as a wig
| Spec | The listing says | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Hair material | 100% Human Hair | What the hair is. 100% human hair can be heat-styled, coloured and washed like your own; virgin human hair has had no previous chemical processing. |
| Density | 150% | How much hair is attached to the cap, as a percentage. 150% reads as natural, 180% as full, 200%+ as deliberately abundant. Not standardised between manufacturers. |
| Lace size | 7x5 Lace Closure | The lace panel in inches — width along the hairline curve, then depth back from it. 13x4 and 13x6 run ear to ear; 4x4, 5x5 and 6x5 are closures at the front. |
| Lace type | Transparent Lace | What the hairline panel is made of. HD (or invisible) lace is thinnest and most translucent; transparent lace is the common mid-grade; no lace means a machine-made front. |
| Cap size | Medium (Circumference 22.5") | Head circumference the cap is cut for. "Average" means roughly 22 to 22.5 inches, which most manufactured wigs are built to. |
| Hairline | Pre-plucked, Pre-bleached | Whether the front has been pre-plucked to soften the density, and whether baby hair has been left. Unplucked hairlines look blunt until you thin them yourself. |
| Texture | Water Wave | The wave or curl pattern of the hair — straight through body wave, loose wave, water wave, deep wave and kinky curly. Changes the look more than any other single spec. |
| Colour | Natural Black | The stated shade. Numbered codes are the industry standard: #1B natural black, #4 chocolate brown, #27 honey blonde, #613 platinum, #99J burgundy, #33 reddish brown. |
| Can be dyed | Yes | Whether the hair will take colour or bleach. Only genuinely unprocessed human hair reliably will, and going lighter is far harder than going darker. |
| Construction | Lace closure | Whether the unit is a lace closure, a lace frontal, a bob wig or a set of bundles. |
What these specs mean together
- 7x5 Lace Closure
- A wider closure area than a standard 4x4 — more room to move the parting, without a full frontal install.
- 150% density
- A medium density — full enough to look natural without much bulk.
- Transparent lace
- An untinted lace designed to suit a range of skin tones; many wearers still tint it to match more precisely.
- Pre-plucked hairline
- The hairline has been thinned so it looks less uniform than a machine-finished edge.
Not stated — ask before you buy
The listing doesn't say these. Check the retailer's product page or ask them, because each changes how the wig looks or fits.
- Length. Measured straight, so curly units hang shorter than the number.

How it reads a listing
It reads text the same way this site reads the retailers' own product feeds: specification lines like "Density: 180%" first, then anything the title states, such as "13x4", "HD lace", "glueless" or "22 inch". It only repeats what the listing says, and never guesses a spec that isn't there.
Every definition comes from our spec glossary. For lace sizes to scale, see lace sizes explained.
