Wig Texture Matcher
A V-part, U-part or headband wig only looks like yours if its texture matches your own hair where it shows. Pick your hair and see which textures blend as they are, and which you'd have to style to match every time.
Deep wave with natural coils (4A–4C) hair: needs styling every wear.
You'd reshape your leave-out every time: stretched with a blow-out, then set in waves with rods or a braid-out, with heat protectant.
Kinky curly is the texture closest to type 4 hair worn in its own pattern.
Every texture with your leave-out
| Wig texture | How it blends | What you'd do |
|---|---|---|
| Kinky curly | Blends as it is | Wear your hair as you usually do, and comb your leave-out into the wig's hair at the parting. |
| Curly | Blends with light styling | Stretch your leave-out a little with a twist-out or braid-out, so it matches the wig's looser pattern. |
| Kinky straight (yaki) | Needs styling every wear | You'd straighten your leave-out every time you wear it: a blow-out, or a pass of a flat iron at moderate heat with heat protectant. Keep heat-free days in between. |
| Deep wave | Needs styling every wear | You'd reshape your leave-out every time: stretched with a blow-out, then set in waves with rods or a braid-out, with heat protectant. |
| Straight | Hard to blend | Your hair and this texture are far apart. Choose a closer texture, or a wig that covers your hair: a lace closure or front with nothing left out, or bangs over the leave-out. |
| Body wave | Hard to blend | Your hair and this texture are far apart. Choose a closer texture, or a wig that covers your hair: a lace closure or front with nothing left out, or bangs over the leave-out. |
| Loose wave | Hard to blend | Your hair and this texture are far apart. Choose a closer texture, or a wig that covers your hair: a lace closure or front with nothing left out, or bangs over the leave-out. |
| Water wave | Hard to blend | Your hair and this texture are far apart. Choose a closer texture, or a wig that covers your hair: a lace closure or front with nothing left out, or bangs over the leave-out. |
Blending tips
- Keep the leave-out small. A V-part leaves out less hair than a U-part: less to blend, and gentler on your own hair.
- Match shine. Human hair wigs can be shinier than natural hair: a light dry shampoo on the wig, or a little serum on your leave-out, evens it out.
- Look after your leave-out. Moisturise it daily, wrap it in satin at night, and take breaks with a headband or closure wig.
- Colour. Natural black (#1B) and dark brown blend most easily. If the wig and your hair differ, a temporary root spray or powder on your hair washes out; dyeing your own hair to match the wig is the thing to avoid.

How the matching works
From our guides to V-part and U-part wigs, yaki and kinky straight and choosing a texture: choose the wig texture closest to your hair as you'll wear it, and match the wig to your hair rather than processing your hair to match the wig. Edges are a small amount of hair, laid with a brush, so they blend a step more easily than a leave-out.
Questions people ask
What wig texture blends with natural hair?
Choose the texture closest to your hair as you wear it. Blown-out natural hair blends with kinky straight; relaxed or silk-pressed hair with yaki or straight; 4A–4C hair in its own pattern with kinky curly; looser curls with curly or deep wave.
What is the difference between kinky straight and yaki?
Kinky straight is coarser and fuller, like blown-out natural hair. Yaki is smoother, like relaxed or silk-pressed hair, with a soft satin shine rather than a gloss.
Do I have to straighten my leave-out for a straight wig?
Only if your hair is curly or coily and the wig is silky straight: then you would straighten the leave-out each time. A kinky straight wig is the usual compromise, as it blends with blown-out hair with less heat.
