7x5 and 6x5 Lace Wigs: The Wear-and-Go Middle Ground
7x5 and 6x5 lace wigs sit between a closure and a full frontal — more parting room, far less lace to lay. Why so many glueless wigs use them, and who they suit best.

For years the lace wig choice was simple: a closure if you wanted easy, a frontal if you wanted flexible. Then a new size started appearing on almost every retailer's "wear and go" and "glueless" units — 7x5, and its close cousin 6x5.
These sizes exist because they solve a specific problem. A closure is easy but limiting; a 13x4 frontal is flexible but takes real time to fit well. A 7x5 or 6x5 gives you much of a frontal's parting freedom with something close to a closure's ease. That's why retailers build so many pre-cut, pre-plucked, glueless units around them.
This guide explains what the numbers mean, how these sizes compare with what's either side of them, and how to choose a good one.
What 7x5 and 6x5 mean
As with all lace sizes, the numbers are inches: width across the front × depth back from the hairline.
- 7x5 — about 7 inches across the front of the head, 5 inches deep.
- 6x5 — about 6 inches across, 5 inches deep.
Compare that with:
- 4x4 closure — 4 across, 4 deep.
- 5x5 closure — 5 across, 5 deep.
- 13x4 lace front — 13 across (roughly ear to ear), 4 deep.
So a 7x5 is wider than a closure but doesn't reach your ears like a frontal. It covers the front of your hairline from about the outer corner of one eyebrow to the other, and gives you more depth than a 13x4 at the parting.
Sizes are nominal and vary between manufacturers. Our lace sizes guide draws them to scale.
Why these sizes suit glueless wear
Three reasons retailers favour them for glueless, wear-and-go units:
- Less lace along the temples. On a 13x4, the lace near your ears is the hardest part to keep flat without adhesive. A 7x5 stops before that, so the part that tends to lift isn't there.
- Pre-cut lace is easier to get right. A shorter lace edge is easier to pre-cut accurately so it fits most hairlines out of the box.
- Enough lace for a real side part. Seven inches of width gives room for a natural side part — the main thing people miss on a closure.
The result is a wig many people can put on in minutes, which is exactly the promise of "wear and go".
What a 7x5 or 6x5 lets you do
- Middle and side parts, with more room than a 5x5.
- A natural hairline across the centre front, with baby hairs and plucking.
- Five inches of parting depth — more than a 13x4's four.
- Quick, glueless fitting with very little to lay.
What they don't do
- Swept-back styles that expose the temples. The lace stops before your ears, so pulling everything back reveals wefts at the sides.
- Tucked-behind-both-ears styles, for the same reason — though tucking one side often works.
- High ponytails. You need a 360 lace for that.
7x5 or 6x5?
The difference is one inch of width. The 7x5 gives a little more room at the sides of the parting and covers slightly more of the front hairline; the 6x5 is a touch smaller and sometimes a little cheaper. In practice, many people can't tell them apart once the wig is styled. Choose based on the specific wig you like rather than the extra inch.
Who they suit
- Beginners who want more than a closure. If a closure feels limiting but a frontal feels intimidating, this is your size.
- People who change between middle and side parts.
- Busy mornings. A pre-cut, pre-plucked glueless 7x5 can go from box to head in under 15 minutes with practice.
- Anyone giving their edges a rest. Less lace near the temples means less fussing along your hairline, and glueless wear means no adhesive on your skin.
What to check on the listing
"Pre-cut" and "wear and go"
These are the features that make the size worth buying. Pre-cut lace is trimmed along the hairline already. Look for "pre-cut lace" or "wear and go" in the title or browse pre-cut lace wigs.
Glueless cap
Adjustable straps, combs and ideally an elastic band at the back of the lace. That's what keeps it secure without adhesive. See glueless wigs.
Pre-plucked hairline and bleached knots
Same as any lace wig: a softened hairline and lightened knots are what make the front look natural.
Lace type
HD or transparent. With less lace on show than a frontal, transparent is often enough; HD helps for close-up wear. See HD vs transparent lace.
Density
Many wear-and-go units come in 150% or 180%, which keeps them light — part of the point. Higher densities are available if you want more volume.
Cap size
Most come on an average cap with adjustable straps. Measure your head if you're unsure.
Fitting a 7x5 glueless wig
- Flatten your hair and use a wig cap close to your skin tone (optional with short hair).
- Tighten the straps to a snug fit before putting it on.
- Place the lace just in front of your hairline, centred.
- Secure the combs at the front and sides.
- Press the lace down and use a melt band for 10 minutes if you want it extra flat.
- Part and style.
Because the lace is pre-cut and the hairline pre-plucked, there's usually no trimming or plucking to do. Our glueless fitting guide covers troubleshooting.
Styling ideas
- Side part with a soft swoop — the style a 7x5 is designed for.
- Middle part, sleek or wavy.
- Half-up claw clip — the front lace handles the lifted section.
- One side tucked behind the ear, the other falling forward.
- Curtain bangs cut from the front section — see our cutting guide.
Which retailers to look at
Several retailers on Bulqq build glueless wear-and-go units around 7x5 and 6x5 lace. By the "Strongest on" measure on our comparison page, Arabella Hair's range leans toward glueless wear-and-go caps more than most, and Luvme Hair's toward HD lace. That measures where their ranges lean, not quality. Browse every 7x5 lace wig and 6x5 lace wig across all retailers.
Care
- Take it off every night — that's the advantage of glueless.
- Lift from the back; don't peel the front lace.
- Wash the hairline gently with diluted shampoo and fingertips.
- Keep heat away from the lace edge.
- Store on a stand.
7x5 and 6x5 questions
Is a 7x5 a frontal or a closure?
Neither, strictly — it's in between. Some retailers call it a "7x5 closure", others a "7x5 lace". It's wider than a closure but doesn't reach the ears like a frontal.
Is 7x5 good for beginners?
Very. A pre-cut, pre-plucked, glueless 7x5 is one of the easiest lace wigs to wear.
Can I wear a 7x5 swept back?
Partly. You can sweep the top back, but the temples will show wefts if you pull the sides back too.
7x5 or 13x4?
Choose 7x5 for speed, ease and glueless wear. Choose 13x4 if you want to tuck your hair behind both ears or wear it fully back.
Does a 7x5 cost more than a closure?
Usually a little more than a 5x5, and less than a 13x4 — but it depends on the retailer and listing.
Reading a 7x5 listing: a worked example
"Wear and Go Glueless 7x5 Pre-Cut HD Lace Body Wave Wig Pre-Plucked Bleached Knots 180% Density 20 Inch"
- Wear and Go — a marketing label combining pre-cut lace and a glueless cap.
- Glueless — combs, straps and usually an elastic band.
- 7x5 Pre-Cut HD Lace — a 7x5 lace area, trimmed along the hairline, in the thinnest lace.
- Body Wave — forgiving and easy.
- Pre-Plucked and Bleached Knots — a ready-to-wear hairline.
- 180% Density — full but natural.
- 20 Inch — body wave hangs only slightly shorter.
That combination is about as close to "put it on and go" as a lace wig gets.
7x5 vs 5x5 closure vs 13x4: side by side
5x5 closure
- Lace: 5 inches across, 5 deep.
- Parting: middle or slight side.
- Fitting: quickest of the three.
- Wear it back? No.
7x5 lace
- Lace: 7 inches across, 5 deep.
- Parting: middle or a comfortable side part.
- Fitting: quick, especially pre-cut.
- Wear it back? Partly — the top, not the temples.
13x4 lace front
- Lace: 13 inches across, 4 deep.
- Parting: anywhere across the front.
- Fitting: the most lace to lay.
- Wear it back? Yes.
See our 5x5 closure guide and 13x4 guide for each in depth.
Making a 7x5 look its best
- Choose a cap close to your skin tone so the lace reads as scalp.
- Use a melt band for 10 minutes after fitting.
- Style baby hairs softly with a brush.
- Keep the part within the lace — find the edges with a mirror first.
- Add face-framing layers so the front looks like a haircut. See cutting a wig at home.
Common 7x5 mistakes
- Trying to tuck both sides behind the ears. The lace stops before the temples.
- Over-tightening the straps. A grip band is a better fix for sliding.
- Trimming pre-cut lace unnecessarily. Wear it first; most edges fit.
- Laying it too far forward. The lace should sit just in front of your own hairline.
Who might prefer something else
- If you always wear a middle part and want the lowest price, a 4x4 or 5x5 closure is enough.
- If you love slicked-back styles, a 13x4 or 13x6 lace front.
- If you want no lace at all, a headband or V-part wig.
More 7x5 questions
Can I wear a 7x5 in a ponytail?
A low ponytail with some face-framing pieces left out works. For high ponytails, you'll need a 360.
Does 7x5 work with curly textures?
Yes — curls cover the edges of the lace, making a 7x5 look very natural.
Is 6x5 noticeably smaller?
Only by an inch of width. Choose on the wig you like rather than the size.
The short version
7x5 and 6x5 lace wigs give you room for a real side part and five inches of parting depth, without the ear-to-ear lace that makes frontals fiddly. Most are built as pre-cut, pre-plucked, glueless wear-and-go units, which makes them one of the easiest lace wigs to wear daily.
